What is The Difference Between Chiropractic and Physical Therapy

Many people suffer from musculoskeletal problems due to accidental injury or a chronic condition. There are various types of treatment available including from surgery to medication, or physical therapy. However, everything depends upon the severity of injury or types of problems and unique needs of a person. There are several types of physical therapy exercises and chiropractic exercises which may be helpful to recover from any sort of injury.

What is Physiotherapy or Physical Therapy
In a general term if we can say that physical therapy is used to treat and diagnose the movement of impairment and disorders of body parts. Where different types of exercises and physical methods are used.
In physical therapy, we treat certain types of diseases, injury or deformity by using both active and passive stretching, hot/cold therapy or any specific physical therapy exercise. The sole objective of physical therapy is to help the patients to regain their lost mobility and to prevent future injury.

There are five subcategories of physical therapy which we have classified below-

Orthopedic– Orthopedic physical therapy focuses mainly on the restoration, recovery and healthy movements of joints, tendons, ligaments, and bones. In this type of physical therapy, we include the following different types of treatments such as stretching, endurance exercises, practice of hot and cold types packs, and sometimes muscle stimulation is advantageous. It helps in early recovery from any type of tough muscle problems.

Geriatric– The objective of the Geriatric physical therapy is to treat the conditions of arthritis, osteoporosis, joint disorders in older adults. Geriatric therapy helps in restoring mobility, reduce pain, and increasing physical fitness.

Neurological– It’s another type of physical therapy that is used to focus on the neurological conditions of patients such as Alzheimer, brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy and stroke. This physical therapy treatment plan includes the highest level of autonomous functions. 
While treating the patients with neurological disorders, physiotherapists guide them for visual, balance and muscle loss impairments.

Cardiopulmonary– Cardiovascular or pulmonary physical therapy helps people to recover from several diseases such as heart attacks, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and other types of cardiovascular and pulmonary conditions. It improves the functionality and endurance of cardiovascular and pulmonary health. 
While going through this type of physical therapy, There are several things that are suggested such as aerobic, pulmonary rehab, energy-conservation techniques, nutritional counselings, psychological counselling.

Paediatric– Pediatric physical therapy is one of the well-known therapies used for infants, adolescents, and children below the age of 18. This physical therapy covers acute injury, genetic disorders, head trauma, limb deficiency, muscle diseases, orthopedic disabilities, etc. Pediatric physiotherapists used different types of exercises and treatment plans for infants and children. 
The objective of such a type of therapy is to encourage the children to achieve milestones of their age. And also to enhance the motor nervous balance. Moreover, it can strengthen the weakness and imbalance. It effectively works on cerebral palsy.

Chiropractic is a medical practice that helps to deal with the musculoskeletal system problems where it’s prime objective is to treat spine-related problems. Where Chiropractic is a healthcare professional who is known for treatment of neuromuscular disorders.

While practicing chiropractic therapy he usually concentrates on manual adjustment or manipulation of the spine.

While going through the chiropractic therapy, the pressure is applied to a person’s spine or any other part of the body. The pressure helps in proper alignment and correct adjustment, so as to ensure the proper functioning.
